New Year's Resolutions - By Vanessa Spick

So many people are motivated to make New Year's resolutions only to have success for a short while and then give up after a week. They fall at the first hurdle. They do not see the point in carrying on as they see that one lapse as a sign that they will not be able to have the will power, motivation and success to carry on with their New Year's resolution.

Statistics say that only 4% of people will stick to their resolutions. Instead of very specific resolutions try a new way at looking at improving your life. This is fun, can be tailored to your circumstances, no matter where you are and what you are doing.

Are you ready to change? Yes? Copy out the list of words below on to separate pieces of paper of the same size; you could even use Microsoft word, or a similar programme to create a table to put your words in.

Cut them up into individual words and fold them up and put them in a bowl, box or special container. Set an intention for what you want to happen do or become and choose three words to pull out of the bowl to live your life through. These words are not only actions, they have emotions connected to them and this is what attracts success.

You can opt to have these same words for a week, a month or the whole year. Personally I keep the words for the year or until a major change in my life occurs during the year. I also use the full set of words to select from either every day or when I have an important meeting or job to do. As the words are very open to interpretation it means success is more likely to happen.

Some people laminate the words to make them more durable, use coloured card and made two or three copies and chosen one word from each colour and if the same word comes up in each colour then it means it is even more important to focus on this word.

They can be made playing card size and carried in a handbag or pocket and used through out the day to give confidence in a difficult situation. Most of the words are open to interpretation depending on how you feel or what the situation is. Rely on your gut instincts for the interpretation and be prepared to alter the interpretation in different situations.

Compassion, Acceptance, Creativity, Prayerfulness, Truth, Mastery, Knowing, Fun, Delight, Generosity, Growth, Confidence, Openness, Challenge, Willingness, Health, Action, Expansion, Peace, Presence, Effortlessness, Kindness, Spirit, Order, Gratitude, Courage, Self-Love, Exploration, Forgiveness, Listen , Gentleness, Abundance, Patience, Adventure, Change, Discipline, Power, Friendship, Laziness, No, Yes, Forgive, Laughter, Deliberateness, Love, Wealth, Trust, Grace, Awe, Spirit, Clarity, Artfulness, Joy, Heal, Savour, Awareness, Peace, Beauty, Risk, Commitment, Choice, Attention, Pioneer, Freedom, Focus, Release, Allow, Ritual, Integrity.

Once you have chosen your words you buy a special book and divide it into three sections and put each word in its own section. Underneath, and in the middle of the page write the word "Opportunities".

As you are given opportunities to develop your life according to the word selected write them in your book. You could even write the opportunities you would like to receive. Use different coloured pens and illustrate you pages as the urge takes you. Make it personal, exciting and something to be treasured.

If you start each day with the intention of seeing each day through your words and are then accountable for recording your opportunities you will make the effort to seek out the opportunities and not let them pass by.

Reading back what you have achieved so far will motivate you to make further changes in the knowledge that you have already had success. You have one life so live it to the best of your ability and share your good fortune with others.

Remember it is all about getting the life you want and deserve not about beating yourself up if you make a mistake. Take time to visualise each day, set your intention and at the end of the day evaluate what has happened and be grateful for the opportunities you have been given. Every day is a new day and a fresh start so this technique can be used on any day of the year that you want or need a new start.
