The Path to Success – Believe in yourself By Vanessa Spick
You cannot expect other people to believe in you if you do not believe in yourself. However, this certainly does not mean that you should be arrogant or cocky in your attitude. What it does mean is that you know you do your best and that you give 100% of yourself in any task you perform.
In order to get the best from this you need to know yourself inside out. You need to know your strengths and weaknesses. Make sure you continue to develop your strengths so you are always at the top of the game.
As for your weaknesses you need to decide how important they are to your goals. If they are a serious threat to your goals then you need to do something about them. If not then accept there are some things you are not good at and spend your time building up some of your other skills or behaviours.
You may need to develop a certain skill. Find the best way to do it; home study, night class, coaching, residential course or shadowing someone. If you work best in a group then find out where courses are available in your area and enrol.
It may be necessary to take part in a residential course and be away from your family for a few days. Explain to them how important this is to you. Save up for the course and if this is vital to your goals then make it priority for your money.
Whilst you are saving up for the course find other skills that you can develop that are cost free but need an input of your time. To make the most of your time devise a list of skills you need to develop, how long they will take, how much they will cost and who can help you.
Now you can organise them in priority and construct a study plan that has a time scale. This way you can work towards your goal everyday and make the best of any free time. It will also help if you have study bites with you if you have spare time whilst waiting for meetings or whilst travelling to and from work or whilst exercising.
Make the most of your MP3 player and download discussions and webinars from the internet. Be ready to question everything you hear and formulate your own opinions. This way you will be able to quote recent research or other opinions but back them up with your own.
Having a list of contacts that can help you is very important. Some will give financial help, others advice, knowledge or contacts and some will be sounding boards for your ideas. Find those you can trust and then share your dreams, the bigger the better.
Join forums and discussion groups on line and offer advice. Read what others are saying and give solutions to their problems. It may be in a field you are already skilled in, alternatively it maybe a stepping stone to develop contacts into a field you want to go into.
Only by taking a leap of faith will you find out how strong you are. If you find there are things you do not know about then list them and add them to the list of things you need to find out about.
No one knows everything and life is a constant learning environment. Remember we all learn from each other even if it is to learn how not to do something. Enjoy your journey of discovery and start believing in yourself as you have so much to offer to others.
