Depression – Using puzzles to help you cope

Often when people are depressed they feel all the world is against them and they are failures in life. It is no good tell them to snap out of it because if they could they would. It is a very dark and painful place to be and certainly not one where you would want to linger.

It is very hard to find order in that world and life moves by either slower than normal or faster. Making sense of the world they are in is not only impossible to them but very draining on any energy they have.

A simple coping strategy could be using puzzles. They don’t have to be difficult. In fact often the easier the puzzle is the better. The aim is to have success in what ever form that takes. For some people puzzles that involve numbers maybe more useful for others those using letters are preferable.

Using word searches as therapy can help. If necessary start with very simple puzzles in large print. The puzzles can be kept private and may involve only finding one word in a session. Many people find that it is easy to find the words as they need order and normality.

In searching for words amongst confusion the eyes are drawn to known words. Most word searches are themed based and this gives clues for the brain to work from. Once this technique is mastered it can become addictive and sometimes take over your life for a while.

Depending on the goals a depressed person wants to achieve as much time as possible can be spent on the puzzles or it may be necessary to limit the time. It is very much dependent on the individual.

As each puzzle is completed self esteem is increased. A life becomes a little more bearable. This technique is not for everyone as some people may find the chaos of the puzzle too much to cope with but it is certainly worth giving it a try – either for yourself or someone you know.

It doesn’t matter what the subject of the word search is or how complicated it is. It is another tool in a very diverse toolbox that is put together to help a depressed person to rebuild their lives.

Rapid progress can be made in achieving goals linked with completing word searches. Word searches can be tailor made using free compilers available on the internet. It may be necessary to compile the word searches for the depressed person rather than them having the task of compiling and completing the puzzle.
