Using Scripting to Enhance your Self Esteem - Vanessa Spick
By Vanessa Spick
Self esteem can be said to be a low sense of self regard. Low self esteem can be devastating to an individual's personal, work, and scholastic life. It can be the result of a poor self image based on a self-attitude attitude about personal value, achievements, purpose, potential, social status or abilities.
If you are serious about finding out how to build self esteem, then learn from your failures, sweep them out of the way and try again as a stronger and wiser you. Low self esteem can be a consequence of being different and not understood by others.
Confidence and self esteem can be built with a little hypnotic mental rehearsal and help; your own happiness train then gathers speed and momentum. Once you have learned to build self esteem, you are better prepared to handle situations that test your confidence.
“Scripting” is an ideal way of developing your esteem. This is a process that allows you to write and rehearse your own scripts for any situation you encounter in your day to day life. It can also be used to create situation you would like to encounter in your life.
Decide on a situation which you are going to encounter in the near future and select the players who will be in the scenario along with yourself. Now YOU decide the words that each person will say as you are in control. You can say what you want to say AND you can decide what the other person’s response will be.
It will take practise to get this correct but it will happen. You can keep going over and over the script until you are happy and comfortable with what you see and hear. Once you are satisfied with the script you can rehearse it as many times as you wish until you are word perfect.
As a result of this scripting when you face the situation in real life you are confident that you can cope with it and get the results that you want. The script may not be entirely as you have planned but you will have enough control of it to give you confidence.
This scripting is used by many sports people to rehearse their performance. In this case it is actions, rather than words that are rehearsed but the end results are the same. Allowing yourself to feel success programmes your mind to act in a given way.
Failure does nit come into the equation as in your script the end result has always been success. Give it a try and see what happens. It is no good doing it half hearted. Total commitment is required.
As with most things it might be easier to start off with smaller less important tasks and build up to more long term goals. Most successful people use this technique as part of their daily routine.
Get into the habit of visualisation your goal and run your own film about it so it becomes a part of you. As a result you will find yourself opportunities to help you get nearer towards your goal.
